How to Read Ebooks You Buy Direct: A Simple BookFunnel Guide

Buying an ebook directly from an author may feel unfamiliar the first time.

What happens when I buy an ebook directly from Miranda Martin?

The answer is surprisingly simple.

What Is BookFunnel?

BookFunnel is a service authors use to securely deliver ebooks and audiobooks directly to readers.

When you buy a digital book from my store, you're purchasing it from my store, but BookFunnel handles getting that book into your hands.

Think of BookFunnel as the bridge between my bookstore and whatever you like to read on.

That might be:

• A Kindle

• A Kobo eReader

• An iPhone or iPad

• An Android phone or tablet

• Apple Books

• A Nook

• The BookFunnel app

• A computer

BookFunnel gives you instructions based on the device you actually use.

How Will My Ebook Be Delivered?

After you purchase an ebook from my store, BookFunnel sends you an email with your book.

Delivery is normally automatic and happens shortly after checkout.

Don't see the email?

Give it a few minutes, then check:

• Your Spam or Junk folder

• Your Gmail Promotions tab

• The email address you used at checkout

That last one catches people surprisingly often.

If you have multiple email addresses, BookFunnel sends the book to the email address you entered when you placed the order.

Search your inbox for BookFunnel if you're not sure where the message went.

What Do I Do When the BookFunnel Email Arrives?

Open the email and click the link for your book.

BookFunnel will ask how you want to read it.

Choose your device or reading app and follow the instructions on the screen.

That's one of the reasons I use BookFunnel.

You don't have to figure out the correct file format, transfer method, or device settings yourself. BookFunnel guides you through the process for the way you read.

Can I Read Books From BookFunnel on My Kindle?

Yes.

This includes readers using Kindle eReaders such as a Kindle Paperwhite, Oasis, Scribe, and other modern Kindle devices.

BookFunnel provides a Send to Kindle process that helps you add the ebook to your Kindle library.

Once the book has been added to your Kindle library, you can read it much like the other personal ebooks in that library.

So if you've been hesitant to buy books directly from me because you thought:

But I read on a Kindle...

You're fine.

You can still read my direct-purchase ebooks on your Kindle.

You do not have to buy a different eReader just because you bought the book somewhere other than Amazon.

Can I Read My Book in the BookFunnel App?

Yes.

And this is one of the easiest options if you don't care about moving the book into another reading app.

The free BookFunnel app lets you access your BookFunnel library and read ebooks directly inside the app.

You can adjust things such as font size, font style, spacing, and margins to make reading more comfortable.

Where Is My BookFunnel Library?

This is one of the most useful BookFunnel features to know about.

Log in using the email address you used when you purchased or downloaded your books.

Your BookFunnel library keeps the books associated with that account in one place.

And it isn't just for my books.

If you've received ebooks from other authors who use BookFunnel, you may find those books there too.

So if you deleted the original delivery email six months ago and suddenly decide you desperately need to reread that alien romance?

Check your BookFunnel library first.

Can I Read My Ebook on Kobo?

Yes.

If you prefer reading on a Kobo eReader or supported Kobo reading app, BookFunnel can provide the appropriate ebook file and instructions for getting it onto your device.

Choose Kobo when BookFunnel asks how you'd like to read your book and follow the steps it provides.

This is separate from Kobo Plus or purchasing a book from the Kobo store.

If you buy the ebook directly from me, you own that copy. BookFunnel is simply helping you deliver it to your preferred reading device.

What About an iPhone or iPad?

Yes.

You can read your direct-purchase ebook on an iPhone or iPad.

Depending on your preference, you can read inside the BookFunnel app or use a supported reading app such as Apple Books.

When you open your BookFunnel delivery link, choose the appropriate Apple device or reading option and follow the instructions.

Can I Read on an Android Phone or Tablet?

Yes.

Android readers can use the BookFunnel app or transfer the ebook to a compatible reading app.

Again, you don't need to memorize which format you need.

Open the BookFunnel delivery page and tell it what you're reading on.

It will guide you from there.

Can I Read on My Computer?

Yes.

If you don't have an eReader or simply prefer reading on your computer, BookFunnel also provides web-based reading options.

That means buying ebooks directly doesn't require owning a Kindle, Kobo, Nook, or any other dedicated eReader.

Your existing phone, tablet, or computer may be all you need.

What If I Get Stuck?

What Happens When I Preorder an Ebook?

Preorders work a little differently because the book isn't ready to deliver yet.

When you preorder an ebook from my store, you are charged when you place the order.

Then you can forget about it.

On release day, BookFunnel automatically sends the ebook to the email address you used when you purchased the preorder.

You don't have to come back to the store.

You don't have to place another order.

You don't have to remember your download date.

Just watch for the BookFunnel email when the book releases.

If you don't see it, check your Spam, Junk, or Gmail Promotions folder and make sure you're checking the email address you originally used for the preorder.

What Payment Methods Can I Use?

My store accepts several common payment methods, including:

• Major credit cards

• PayPal

• Shop Pay

• Google Pay

• Apple Pay

The payment options available to you will appear during checkout.

BookFunnel doesn't process your book purchase. Your transaction happens securely through my store, and BookFunnel handles delivery of the digital book afterward.

Do I Have to Keep the BookFunnel App?

No.

You don't even have to use the BookFunnel app if you'd rather read somewhere else.

BookFunnel is designed to give you choices.

You can use it as your reading library, or use it to get the ebook into the reading environment you already prefer.

Kindle reader?

Keep reading on Kindle.

Kobo reader?

Keep your Kobo.

Love Apple Books?

That's fine too.

The whole point of buying books directly is more choice, not less.
