Part of the appeal of Horde Kings of Dakkar is that the world matters.

Dakkar is not interchangeable scenery. Its laws, dangers, cultures, political tensions, and harsh landscapes shape the romances themselves. Later books expand the conflict and mythology of that world even further.

That is exactly the kind of series structure I love too.
