Miranda & James

Writing Partners | Soulmates | Best Friends

I'm the most fortunate girl in the world. I found my soul-mate in James Horton. We do everything together including work, play, and raising our kids.

When we started our author career, James did the writing while I did the covers and editing. Every story, though, was really a combination of our work. We've always brain stormed together, been the sounding board for each other, and made suggestions on how to make our books better.

Then I had the idea for Tajss and a series of books so I decided to write too. Our work habits didn't change though, James' hands are all over my books just as mine were all over his. While we've always worked this way, we've never co-written or credited each other on our books.

The Gladiators of Krix series, set in the Tajss universe, is co-written. The idea for this story started with James and long time readers will recognize the setting.

We've loved writing together and hope you continue to enjoy the stories we're weaving. It's a lot of fun to bounce the story back and forth and we plan to stay a husband and wife writing team going forward.

xoxo

p.s. we've been together for 10 years but just made it official at Disney in Nov 2020. Look at this ring!! *squee*

Inspiration

I was inspired by Battlestar Galactica's deep exploration of humanity through science fiction themes. I wanted to create the message that love prevails over all the problems facing our current society like hatred, racism, bigotry, and partisanship. It's really touched my heart to see readers responding to this message of love and hope.

A behind the scene secret is that Gershom was a mixed inspiration from Gaius Baltar on Battlestar Galactica and Bill Lumbergh's character of the Boss "Gary Cole" in the movie "Office Space". His first appearance in Dragon's Baby was a nod to "Gary Cole" telling "Ron Livingston" he would have to work that weekend.

  • Battlestar Galactica (TV Series 2004)
  • Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
  • Ice Planet Barbarians - Ruby Dixon
  • Dragonlance - Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman
Guenhwypurr
Guenhywpurr is my Maine Coon kitty cat. In the fictional universe of the Forgotten Realms, Guenhwyvar is a magical black panther from the Astral Plane. Guenhwyvar weighs about 600 lb (272 kg). The panther was created by writer R.A. Salvatore, who named one of his own cats after the panther.

Video Games

One of my all time favorites is the Dragon Age series. I just *love* the romance and relationship aspects. In Inquistion, I fell head over heels in love with Solas and he absolutely broke my heart at the end 💔

Dungeons & Dragons

James' friends have been playing together for over twenty years. When we got together it was a natural fit. We love to tell ongoing stories with our friends and watch how one person's idea or character changes because of the actions of the other players.

Photography

I fell in love with it when my first son was born eleven years ago. He was such a fantastic little model to learn with.

Reading

Well duh! My favorite genres are Fantasy and SciFi of all types (also duh 😉 ) My favorite thing to read right now is LitRPG.

Music

James especially loves music. While I like to write in silence, he has his headphones on and is jamming out. He has music lists for different moods and types of scenes even! One of our favorite things to do is go to concerts together.

Fine Dining

If I could live off coffee and pastry I would! I adore a delicious and well-cooked meal. One of our favorite restaurants is Ramsey's because his sticky toffee pudding is to die for.

Writing Space
Pink | Cozy | Gaming

My "office" is in a corner of my bedroom as you can see in this photo. It's my little space and I like to keep it comfy and cozy. I like soft, fluffy blankets and pillows are my comfort items. This is also my gaming space. I love my dual monitors and super cute pink mic for voice chat.
